Marquells’s Testimony; From Prison to Praise

Greetings to all. My name is Marquell and I am an inmate at Lancaster State Prison. I am now a born-again Christian but my life before I came to Christ was full of violence and crime. On Christmas day of 2013 I accept is the Lord Jesus Christ as my savior.
I was raised by my mother as a single parent who could not read or write. She did the very best she could and I love her dearly but the streets of Southeast San Diego swallowed me up. At the age of 10, I became a legitimate gang member learning how to survive on the streets. Part of my crimes involved exploiting women making them work as prostitutes. Due to many poor choices of my past behavior, I wound up in prison. I have been incarcerated for 24 years. During my incarceration I have written a couple books and poems that can find under my website; freemarquell.now .site
I have also attended college in prison completing several classes in the behavioral sciences.
I attend weekly the Protestant Sunday Services conducted by Claudia and Dr. Timothy Emerick. Their ministry has been a blessing to me as well as all the other men who attend these services as well.
There are no loss causes in Jesus!

Hold Fast… Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23

Hold Fast……………….
Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful.
Hebrews 10:23

Introduction
If we are going to have success in our lives we must learn to control our tongue. We must speak the language of the new kingdom of God‘s dear Son Jesus Christ.
We must learn to speak success and not failure. We must understand that when we “keep our tongue for the negative confession we keep our life from problems affecting us.” Proverbs 21.23. When we don’t speak of positive confessions “we are snared taken captive by the words of her own mouth.” Proverbs 6.2. It says it that we are either justified or condemned by what we speak. Matthews 12:37. Remember that which is not of faith is sin. Rom. 14:23
Why does scripture tell us to hold fast? True belief or doubts is shown by the way in which one thinks, speaks and lives. To swerve from this would be to wander off the path to the right or the left into some error or contradiction. It is because we have an enemy Satan who will fight you every step of the way. That is his job and he is very good at it.
When Things Get Hard!
Problems come to all of us but unless your house is built on solid foundation it will not survive. We are called overcomers by the word of our testimony. Our words and lives must consistently declare the word of God.

Build on the Rock
• “Therefore, whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
Matthew 7:24-27

• And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Rev. 12:11

• You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. I John 4:4

Speak Life!
Do not talk about what the devil is doing. Talk about what God has done for us in Jesus!
• We need to declare that we are a new creation 2 Corinthians 5:17

• We need to declare that we are the righteousness of God 2 Corinthians 5:21

• We need to declare that we have been set free from the bondages of hell.
Colossians 1:12–14

• We need to declare that we are not inferior or failure or frustrated. 2 Timothy 1:7

• We need declare that we redeemed from the curse of the law and we are not bound by sin sickness or spiritual death. Gal. 3: 10-14

• We need to declare that we are prosperous and have good success.
Joshua 1:8.

• And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of[a] his Spirit who lives in you. Romans 8:11

Be Bold!
• For truly I say to you, that whoever shall say to this mountain, ‘Be taken away and cast into the sea’, and shall not waver in his heart but shall believe that those things which he says shall happen, whatever he says shall be done to you. “Therefore, I say to you, whatever you desire when you pray, believe that you shall have it and it shall be done to you. Mark 11:23-24

• Let the weak say, ‘I am strong. Joel 3:10

• Now thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and reveals through us the sweet aroma of his knowledge in every place. 2 Corinthians 2:14

• Yet I am not ashamed, for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed to him against that day. 2 Timothy1:12

• What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? Romans 8:31

Listen to how people speak. Words are locaters either of faith or doubt. How you think is how you will speak. And how you speak is how you will live!

Recognizing Your Authority in Christ Jesus!

Recognizing Your Authority in Christ Jesus!
Introduction
The rule of our lives must be based on the Word of God. Everything we hear should be judged by what God’s Word states. We must be learners of our Lord through His word.
This teaching will examine who we are in Jesus. What benefits and privileges we enjoy and the responsibilities we have. We will also see the commandment of God to go and tell the nations the Good News! To teach people that Christ has come to given us an abundant life and how to resist the devil with renewing our mind with the Word of God.
And finally, we will study the Weapons of our Warfare in the protection of ourselves and spreading the gospel. Authority is as only good as He who back one up. What does authority mean? It means power!

False Teachers
Believe not every spirit but test the spirt if it is of God…I John 4:1

Every fact must be established by the testimony of 2 or 3 witnesses… II Cor. 13: 1

If any man teaches otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings, Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
I Timothy 6:3-5

This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

The Name of Jesus.
Phil. 2:9-10 Name above every name.
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

19 And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, Which is his body, the fullness of him that filleth all in all. Eph. 1:19-23

You have been delivered.
13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. Colossians 1:13-14

Eph. 2:1-6
And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience: Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others. But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us, Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:

Eph. 3:14-21
For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; (not your head) that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.

Your Authority in Christ Jesus
Luke10:19
Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Mark 16: 15-20
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover. So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God. And they went forth, and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them, and confirming the word with signs following. Amen.

Adam, where are you?

Adam, where are you?
Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
Gen. 3:9

Introduction.
When I was a young man, I heard a song by Don Francisco explaining how God began the human race with Adam and Eve. God gave to them the power to reign over the world and to walk in obedience to Him. They were rulers of a kingdom never marred by any shame. However, the master of deception, which is the devil, began his deception of the Word. He used subtly and craftiness to twist the simple truths they heard. While hanging in the balance was a world that was placed at their command. And as they disobeyed God all of their unborn children died spiritually as they bowed down to Satan’s hand.
Hiding from God
Scripture says that God came looking for them and they heard Him calling but they hid. This grabs my attention because how many times do, we try to drown out the voice of God? People use everything and anything to not respond to God’s calling. Are you that person trying to hide due to your shame? But remember that throughout eternity God the Father is still calling your name.
Redemption is by Blood Sacrifice
We are a bloody religion. It says in Hebrews 9:22 ‘without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin.’ You find the symbol of blood in every religion. It says Leviticus 17:11 for the life of the flesh is in the blood. Why blood because God wants us to see the price He paid for our salvation.
• In the Old Testament when they sinned Adam and Eve were given coats of skin. Cain and Abel in Genesis for Abel ‘s sacrifice was accepted because he brought a bloody sacrifice. Genesis 8:20 Noah offered burnt offerings on the altar to the Lord. Abraham and Isaac in Genesis 22:13 what is the offer his son up to the Lord God. You see the Doctrine of Blood over and over again throughout Scripture.
In Egypt the Israelites had to put blood upon the lentil of their houses so the angel of death would pass over and the plague will not be upon them.
• In the New Testament the cross is a symbol of sacrifice in blood. Communion again speaks of the blood. John the Baptist spoke about the Lamb of God would take away the sin of the world.
In the death of Christ, He wept over Jerusalem, He sweat tears of blood in the garden, He gave his blood on the cross. 14 times Jesus predicted his own death. The death of Christ as mentioned 255 times in the New Testament.
• I Peter 1:18-19. ‘it says we are not redeemed with corruptible things of silver and gold, but we are deemed with the precious blood of Christ the lamb without blemish or without spot.’

Meaning of Redemption
Redemption means buying someone back from slavery. We are slaves to sin before we come to Christ and Christ gave his life as a ransom for all those who believe.
Only Christ can bring deliverance. We are justified by the blood Romans 5:9 says. The blood of Christ makes us all equal. The blood of Christ gives us peace. The blood of Christ cleanses us from our iniquities and sin. The blood of Christ reconciles us back to God.

The Curse was Broken.
The curse against mankind was broken long ago by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ but men are still prisoners of their fears. People continue to rush to destruction with their fingers in their ears. The Father’s voice is calling with an urgency I never heard before. Come in from the darkness before it’s time to close the door!
The blood of Christ reconciles us back to God. The question is today with all that you’ve heard are you going to except Christ as your Lord and Savior or reject him as many have done.
The Father is calling, where are you? He is a loving Father waiting for you to answer His call. Don’t try to hide any longer. He is waiting for you.

Assassin turned Saint!

Assassin turned Saint!
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
2 cor. 5:17

Introduction.
Is there anything too hard for God to do? God can change a person’s heart if they are willing. The Apostle Paul was a willing man to do God’s will.

I think it’s quite ironic I worked so long in law enforcement that now I’m working in prisons teaching to the same type of people that I took into custody. And working in law enforcement can make one very hard and jaded. I used to think people in jail did not deserve a chance to turn their lives around. I know that God has giving me this opportunity see those who are incarcerated in a different light.

This was the transformation of the apostle Paul from darkness to light. If you remember Paul was in charge of persecuting and killing Christians. After his conversion to Christianity he became one of the most important apostles in the New Testament.

Paul could now understand the frailty of human nature which blinded him previously by his own pride. He could now see his own shortcomings and sin, that separated him from God the Father.

You see to God sin is sin. The consequences here on earth for our sins differ drastically. It can be from a slap on the hand as a child for lying or stealing or going to prison as an adult for something worse.

I think when we can truly understand our own sinfulness before a holy God, we are less likely to judge others for what they have done. We should look at them with eternal eyes of what they may become once transformed by the power of God.

God looked at Paul who was an assassin with eternal eyes. God knew that Paul would become one of the most important individuals in the New Testament church. That is what looking at people with eternal eyes means. Many are bound by past sins and shortcomings. Some think there’s no way out. They think they’re too far gone for God to help.

Paul learned not look to at his past but look towards his high calling that he received in Christ Jesus. Paul understood that Gods eternal eyes are mercy in action. Can you see the same?

Roberts’s Testimony; From Prison to Praise!!

Greetings my name is Robert and I’m an inmate at the Lancaster State Prison.

I will share just a little bit of my testimony with you. Before I came to the Lord Jesus Christ, I was a gang member and criminal. I was angry, resentful, and a miserable person. I allowed my circumstances to change the course of my life. At the age of 16 that was sentenced to die in prison for killing another person. I take full responsibility for my actions and I didn’t care the harm that I caused to them and their families. While in prison I was a very violent person and in 2016 I was sentenced to the Security Housing Unit for two years of Pelican Bay State Prison. This is called solitary confinement and it is a prison within a prison.
In the Fall of 2017, I had about a year and a half in solitary confinement. I was channel surfing and I landed on TBN a Christian station. I saw on the TV the title called “What is Love?” For some reason I left it on the channel and turned into the program. I saw Dr. Charles Stanley a Christian televangelist speak about God ‘s love and how to practice God ‘s love and how to love your neighbor. I found myself taking notes and writing down Bible verses that he was referencing. When the program ended, I was left wanting to know more. The following week I turned in again and I now had a Bible to check what he was referring to. When I opened up that Bible and read it for myself, it changed everything. All the questions I’ve ever had were answered as I began to read more. I realized the Bible is the Word of God and it convicted me but also enlightened me. It showed me how lost I was. How foolish and horrible I was. It was then that I felt the guilt and shame of my past actions. It was then I knew that I couldn’t keep doing what I was doing. I could not be the source of any more pain and suffering. It was in the Fall of 2017 that I repented and accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. It has been five years since I made that decision and my life has changed in a wonderful way. Yes, I’m still in prison but there is joy and hope in me that this world cannot take away. God is good all the time.
I have been attending for about a year now Christian Protestant Services with Dr. Emerick and his wife Claudia. I am enrolled in their two-year Bible Institute Program that they offer and I have completed more than half of the curriculum. This is a great way to study and learn the Word of God.

Please share my testimony with others so they can find new life in Jesus like I have!!

Invisible Barriers to Healing.

Introduction

Invisible Barriers to Healing!
We must understand that everything that manifests itself in the physical realm has its roots in the spiritual realm. Sin, sickness, and disease has its connection to the spiritual realm. Many people don’t understand why they don’t receive either their physical or emotional healing that the Lord Jesus Christ paid for on the cross of Calvary. In this teaching we’re going to go over a lot of the different areas that are considered barriers for someone to receive their healing. Sickness and suffering are not of God. Scripture stated that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. Acts 10:38. We are the temple of God. He expects us to treat our temple with respect. Much illness is self-caused. Fear, anxiety, worry, being overweight, lack of exercise, lack of eating properly, etc. Remember, whatever is not of Faith is Sin. Rom. 14:23.

Ignorance of What we Have

Many people don’t understand that the Lord Jesus Christ already paid for our healing and the cross of Calvary. It states in Galatians 3: 13 states the following: ‘Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written; cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree’.
Rebellion
My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge.
Hosea 4:6

Doubt
‘And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek Him.
Heb. 11:6

See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, as long as it is called “Today,” so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness. Heb. 3:12-13.

Unforgiveness

And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. Mark 11:25.

Involvement with the Occult

The common occult practices are fortune-telling, Ouija Board, Horoscopes, Superstition, Some kinds of music, Drugs, etc. All these open the door to Satan.

Do not bow down before their gods or worship them or follow their practices. You must demolish them and break their sacred stones to pieces. 25 Worship the LORD your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you, and none will miscarry or be barren in your land. I will give you a full life span. Exodus 23:24-26

Family or Generational Curses.

Curses over a family or a generational curse might include but not necessarily mental and emotional breakdowns. Repeated and chronic illnesses that are especially hereditary. Repeated miscarriages or female problems like Barreness. Breakdowns of family and marriage alienation. Continue our financial insufficiency. And finally suicides are a unnatural deaths.

Demonic Oppression or Possession

At sunset, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them. Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Messiah. Luke 4:40-41.
• Spirits of Infirmity, crippling pain, etc.
• Curvature of the spine.
• Spirit of death. Always looking on the dark side, morbidity, dressings darkly.
• I will live and declare of works of the Lord. Ps. 118:17

The Great Commission

And go into all the world, proclaim the good news to all the creation; he who has believed and has been baptized will be saved; and he who has not believed will be condemned. And signs will accompany those believing these things: they will cast out demons in My Name; they will speak with new tongues; they will take up serpents; and if they may drink any deadly thing, it will not hurt them; they will lay hands on the sick, and they will be healed. “Mark 16: 15-18

Repentance and Confession.

Thank you Lord Jesus, that on the cross you were made a curse for me that I might be redeemed from the curse and receive the blessings. And because of what you did Lord Jesus in your precious name I release myself from every disease and curse over me and my family. I will treat your temple correctly. I will eat right, I will exercise, I will get enough sleep, I will not worry, I will not be anxious. And I claim the blessings that you have purchased for me and the cross of Calvary with your blood. Thank you Lord Jesus.

A.H. Salaam- Personal Testimony from Mohammed to Jesus Christ!

A.H. Salaam- Personal Testimony from Mohammed to Jesus Christ!

I was a forty-five yr. old drug addict addicted to cocaine. I was in an eleven yr. old battle with this disease since 1989, the year my ‘Mother’, the best human friend I ever had passed away. In 2000, I was at my hopeless end, I had allowed my addictions
to destroy every valuable relationship in my life – a thirteen yr. old marriage, a rich and beautiful relationship with my five children, and a thriving and productive home improvement business that gave me the privilege of building community relationship with reputable business establishments. Roaming the streets and alleyways of San Diego in April of 2000 in the wee hours of the morning looking for my next high, I was broke, disgusted, and couldn’t even trust in myself. I cried out to God for help. His reply in a small, still voice was a call to Ronald, my brother. He was two years younger than me, had become a ‘Christian’, and had advanced in his church to the position of Minister to the Bishop on numerous churches. It was around 2:00 am in the morning when I called. He answered and told me that he would come, but that it would take a while since I had woken him from sleep. While waiting for my brother, I was going through a very intense internal battle in my mind because I was under attack with thoughts to leave from the place my brother And I agreed he would come and pick •me up from. Thoughts of fear, doubt, and shame were bombarding me to give up my hope that God would help me see my way out of this awful condition I had fallen into. This my wait seems like a lifetime when it was only about an hour. By the grace and mercy of God, I somehow was able to resist the temptation to go on another mission to get high. Finally, my brother Ronald arrived and I confessed to him that I was sick and tired of this diseased life and since I had tried everything else, I was even willing to try ‘Jesus’ at this point in my life. Ronald was elated and told me he was going to see my older sister who had also been a Christian since 1972, the same year I became a Muslim at age seventeen. My sister’s car was not there when we first arrived; however, a few minutes later she pulled up and was very happy to see I was with my brother Ronald. She then went on to explain she had been awakened from sleep thinking I was in deep trouble so she got into her car and drove to places she knew I would frequent on the streets, disappointed that she had not found me and this was the reason she was happy to see me. After my brother Ronald explained to her my confession to accept to except Jesus as my Savior, they both offered up prayer to God thanking Him for me and then led me into the Sinner’s Prayer. Immediately after I lifted up my heart to God in the Sinner’s Prayer, I experienced a great removal of a great burden or weight off of me that I knew I had been carrying for a long while. I experienced a relief or release from my diseased life of addictions, and I knew the relief came directly from God. After my brother and sister gave thanks and praise to God, I went home with my brother who asked me to attend Church in the morning to be baptized.
It was still very early, around 4:00 am, when I arrived at my brother’s house. Before going back to bed, himself, he pulled out one of his suits from out of his closet and said I could wear it this morning to church. He said for me to get some rest and he would wake me early enough to shower and get dressed. I went to sleep. I don’t know how long I had slept before I was awakened with a burning desire that directed me to shower and get dressed that very instant. By the time was finished I was directed to head on foot to my brother’s church which was not too far away. Without saying anything to my brother or his family, I headed out the door to be baptized. With this strong burning desire directing me on, it came to me that I was to proclaim to anyone I saw that early morning that Jesus is Lord. So, everyone I saw in front of me, or behind me, or even on the other side of the street from me, I announced, “Jesus is Lord” loud enough for them to hear. Continuing to make my way to my brother Ronald’s church, my ex-wife’s new husband, who also was a pastor at the church, was directly in front of my journey. Without hesitation and as though directed by a burning desire to say Jesus is Lord,
I entered the church where my ex-wife’s husband was addressing his congregation (which also included my very own children who only knew their father as a Muslim.). When I entered, all eyes focused on me. Pastor Ronald, who likewise has the same first name as my brother Pastor Ronald, stopped talking and looked my way. Without hesitation, I proclaimed to them for the first time in my life, “Jesus is Lord!”. Still directed by this burning desire, I turned and walked out the door continuing on to my destination. As I headed down the street, I heard my oldest daughter calling, “Dad, Dad, wait up.”. When she caught up with me, she asked where I was going so I explained to her I had accepted Jesus as my Lord and I was going to her uncle’s church to be baptized; so she accompanied me the rest of the way. After the service, the Bishop performed several baptisms in which one was mine. He announced to the congregation that I had believed in Islam for 28 years and after an eleven-year-old battle to drug addiction, I accepted Jesus as my Savior earlier that morning. The church was elated because many of the members knew I was the brother of one of the pastors. After Bishop McKinney performed the baptism as was his practice, he put the microphone to the person baptized and asked if they had anything to say. To me he did the same when he asked me if I had anything to say. Still under this burning desire, the famous saying of a beloved Christian flooded out. I proclaimed emphatically, “FREE at last, Free at last, Thank God Almighty I am Free at last!”. The day I accepted Jesus was April 22nd, the year 2000, which was resurrection Sunday that year. John 8:36.
I attend regularly Sunday morning Christian Protestant Services conducted by Claudia and Dr. Timothy Emerick. Please share my testimony with other how I went from Mohammed to Jesus Christ!

Salvation, Restoration, and Discipleship

May 28th, 2022- San Fernando, California.

This is a picture of my wife and I with a young man name Louie that we have been discipling for some time.  Louie and we were sharing a lunch at IHOP. Louie was released from state prison approximately two years ago and we have stayed in contact with him on a regular basis. We were instrumental in helping him to be released from prison. We sent a letter of recommendation for his release to Governor Brown and to Louie’s Parole Board.

Louie is working full-time and little by little getting his life back together. It is very important for these gentlemen to have an ongoing support system to help them make needed adjustments in the free world. Please keep us in prayer as we continue our efforts in helping young men to be all they can be in Jesus!

Don’t settle for less!

Don’t settle for less!

Gen. 11:31-32 & Gen 12: 1-2,

Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot (Haran’s son), and Sarai his daughter-in-law (his son Abram’s wife) and set out with them from Ur of the Chaldees for the land of Canaan. But when they got as far as Haran, they settled down there. Terah lived 200 years. He died in Haran.  The Lord said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you. I will make you into a great nation. I will bless you and make you famous, and you will be a blessing to others.

This is the tale of two men. This is a story of how the son followed God and his father chooses not to. Both received from God a call to leave their country and go to the land of Canaan but one obeyed and the other did not. Canaan represents the blessing of God. A land of fruitfulness. A place of plenty and peace. A place where one can fulfill their dreams. A place where your very presence will be a blessing to others.

Why did Terah (Abraham’s father) traveled towards Canaan but settled halfway? Why does a person not reach out for the very best God has to offer? Why do some find it easier to complain about their circumstances and wallow in self-pity? We all know people who will continually have a pity party for themselves. They are always complaining about something however others blossom no matter where God calls them to be. Why is this? I believe that it has to do with the attitude of our heart. We all have been knocked around by life. We have all had many hardships and trials. Why do some settle for mediocrity and others for total victory?  Terah gave up when it got difficult. He settled in and died in the land of mediocrity. He never experienced God’s best. Anything that is worth anything takes a lot of persistence and hard work. But Tereh did not have it within him to continue on. Why? Maybe because he was a cry baby? Don’t ever give up. That is easy. Don’t have a pity party when things get tough.

God has great plans for each and every one of us. He wants to bless us and fulfill our dreams. He wants to take you further than you have ever dreamed. But He needs your complete trust. He needs for you to look to Him and believe that all things are possible for those who trust in Him.

Don’t be a quitter! Be steadfast in God and in His power and you will eventually overcome all obstacles.
