Not As You Would Expect!
For a child is born to us, a son is given to us. The government will rest on His shoulders. And He will be called: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Isa. 9:6;
This is a prophecy that was given to Israel approximately 700 years before the incarnation of Jesus. Isaiah was speaking to a stubborn and rebellious nation. He stated that there will be a time that God the Father will send the final answer but not in a way Israel expected. This prophecy refers to Jesus Christ. How can salvation be completed in a child? How can a child be God? God does not always answer in ways that we expect, but He answers if we will listen. I did not say we would always understand God’s ways, but He will answer. How did He answer? He answered in the person of Jesus Christ.
These titles reflected Jesus’ ministry on earth. Let’s examine them. Wonderful Counselor, what does that mean? In Hebrew the word, כדי מייעץ means to counsel or give good advice. How many people run from therapist to therapist looking for good advice when all of the time they just need to ask God and read His word. This is just one way Jesus wants to care for you.
The next name given to Jesus is Mighty God. In Hebrew it is ייתכן אלוהים. This means that God delivers with powerful signs and wonders. God has and will continue to deliver His people. Do you need a miracle? Who should you turn to when you need help?
The third name given to Jesus is Everlasting Father. In Hebrew it is אבי הנצח. The word everlasting means that Jesus has no beginning and no end. He is one with the Father. This is why Jesus stated to Nathaniel that when he saw Jesus he saw the Father because they are one. How many of us would like to have a father who is always there for you?
The fourth name given to Jesus is the Prince of Peace. In Hebrew it is הנסיך של שלום. The title Prince of Peace means that Jesus is the peace in your life. We live in a crazy world that everything is upside down. Some people call that which is good, bad and bad, good. Do you need peace of mind? Jesus is your peace.
For unto us a child is born and His name is Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. God wants to be all of these to you and more if you let Him.
Now who would have thought that all of this could be wrapped up in a baby? God does work in mysterious ways.
